AUNT KATRELLA
THE TALE OF THE SILVER CASKET
France, England, Venice, Rome, Naples, Corfu, Eastern Europe.
Late 1700s, early 1800s.
Late 1700s, early 1800s.
The convulsive crossover from the Revolutionary era into the Napoleonic in the West spurs a quest Eastward far across the Continent for sanctuary near the little town now so forsaken and neglected as to be almost beyond any civilized control.
General de Lafayette's former aide-de-camp in the French Revolutionary Army, a lively but bitterly impaired young cavalry officer of mixed French-English parentage, is forced to flee for his life from fiercely rival political pressures in both France and England. Seeking distant refuge at a mysterious relative's remote "spa" at the southeast edge of the trans-Carpathians, he finds himself in a situation there far different than anything he had expected. Or imagined.
